Hello
Parents/Guardians!
W.O.W (Words of the Week)
Words:
- please
- of
- his
- had
- him
Weekly Highlights:
- This week in Science we continued
our study of the 5 senses with a focus on how our senses keep us safe and
what would happen if we didn’t have our senses.
- In math we started learning about
addition. We learned what the addition sign means and words that
tell us we will be adding: join, combine, more, altogether. We
learned different strategies we can use to add such as using blocks and a
chart, using a 100 chart and counting on, or drawing a picture to
represent each number we are adding. We learned how to record an
addition sentence and that order doesn’t matter when adding because the
answer will still be the same. E.g. if we have 4 apples and 3 oranges it
doesn’t matter if we add 4 apples + 3 oranges or 3 oranges + 4 apples, the
answer will always be 7. We also learned that when adding two
numbers it’s easier to start with the larger number and count on. E.g. 3 +
12= ____. It’s easier to start at
12 and count on 3 numbers than to start at 3 and count on 12
numbers.
- In writing we wrote about Winter 5
senses. We brainstormed different adjectives to describe what we
would smell, taste, feel, see, and hear in the winter time. Here are
some of the things students came up with:
- It
smells like the cold breeze in my nose.
- It
sounds like birds chirping as they fly south.
- It
feels like icy cold on my arms.
- It
looks like kids making snowmen.
- It
tastes like sweet hot chocolate in my cup.
